Namesake Visits
The crew of the USS Arkansas will return to the state for another Namesake Visit, strengthening the bond between the submarine and its namesake. Christening
Held at Newport News Shipbuilding, the Christening celebrated the submarine’s progress and honored those who brought it to life. Supporters from Arkansas and beyond gathered for this proud milestone. The event marked a ceremonial “birth” of the submarine, bringing it one step closer to joining the fleet.
Veterans Day Visit
Members of the USS Arkansas crew visited the state for a week of Veterans Day events, honoring local veterans and engaging with communities across Arkansas. The visit was filled with meaningful moments, from school visits to ceremonies that celebrated service and sacrifice.
Keel Laying
The Keel Laying Ceremony at Newport News Shipbuilding marked the start of construction and included the welding of the sponsor’s initials into the ship. It was a proud moment in the journey of SSN 800. This time-honored tradition symbolized the foundation and future of the submarine.
